sl5b: exhibitionism sans raincoat

Big 5th Birthday Bash! Five years for Second Life! Many sims, many exhibitions, so little time!

I was really lucky. Fox and I had so many events going on, almost simultaneously, that I forgot to get my application in for the SL5B. Thank goodness for the kindnesses of strangers and quick-thinking friends and I had a plot given me late Friday. All great and good, but Fox and I had the one-year anniversary of the Shaolin Temple and a day of events, plus the Elven Lands RFL Fashion Show, and Cypress Rosewood’s Summer Solstice concert. Whew! As a friend said, you need to breathe and I replied, “nuh uh, it’s not on my TO DO list.”

I’m showing both my Second Life work with my sculpts, including a new one (still in progress) named, Native Warrior. I’m also showing my work from Real Life as Cris Palomino..digital paintings done primarily with Corel Painter. Included is my work with one of my creative partners, MAB/Venovara Ivory, with whom I have made numerous beautiful trees and mushrooms and other things.

Please come by for a visit and say hi. There are a veritable TON of exhibits and most will be there for two weeks. There are a few different tinies represented there including Raglan Shire. Check the SL5B Wiki for more coverage on the events and exhibits.

kimono in motion: a work in progress

Kimono WIP

I love Japanese art and many of the artists today do these wonderful floating fabrics which is what inspired me to do this kimono….the collar, butterfly obi, and sleeves are sculpted.  Sometimes the hardest thing to do, in SL, is to blend between avatar clothing and prim clothing as there is a saturation difference that is not always the same.  Also, the ratio for patterns can be maddening.  I am still working out the fabrics on the kimono, itself, and some of the panel work may change, but I am happy with the pattern on the prim clothing.  I had wanted to do a prim skirt as I hate the SL skirt, but may go with the skirt for this. The hair I am wearing is the new Rechereché from It’s a Mab, Mab Universe, a delightful, elegant updo.

one more done, two to go

Yin Yang dress

I have a little more work to do on the collar….deciding if I will do a two-tone collar as well.  No matter how you work things out in a modeling program, there is no accounting for the ways that things will work till you get them inworld and then it’s touch this up, change that till you get it right.  It’s sweet when things come together easily.  All in all, the ability to model things gets them closer the first time around.

asia minor delay: the show will go on: bamboozled

Bamboozled

Bamboozled closeup

I had to opt for the April Posé show due to a variety of reasons, but now the outfits are getting closer.  This assymetrical variation on the cheongsam is called Bamboozled and will be available in a few colors including this vernal green offering, topped with a sculpted collar.  Form hugging, the SL skirt is thrown off in favor of pants and a close-paneled skirt.

getting ready for the show: serenity cheongsam

Serenity Cheongsam Serenity Cheongsam back

Boy howdy, I’ve been so busy!  I have a show on Monday at Posé Academy and I’ll be showing my Asian line.  This is the first of the dresses.  It features a sculpted Mandarin collar.  The dress is assymetrical with a soft curve, frog-closure front.  I really hate the SL skirt model and avoid it if I can.  With the sleek line this dress requires, I opted to try a pant with a close-panel skirt.  Due to the bilateral color scheme on the dress, the pant is red in front, black in the back and the skirt panels follow suit.  There is a wonderful keyhole opening on the back. The pattern is handmade and colored in Photoshop.  I’m really pleased with how it came out.  I will preview the other dresses here as I get them done.  There will, as always, be more than one color version and I am also looking to do a short version.  There will be sculpted hair sticks and hopefully some other goodies.

voices for freedom: documentary on tibet and native american people

Voices for Freedom DVD cover

Today, February 22nd, and tomorrow, February 23rd, at 12 noon PST/SLT (1PM MST/3PM EST), Mystical Mastery will host an internet forum on Voices of Freedom, a documentary mini-series at Half Moon Cove. Director/Producer Mary Teal Coleman/Ven. Tenzin Yeshe will be present during the hour where she will stream short clips and a 20-minute trailer about her documentary, Voices of Freedom. Before and after each video stream, Ven. Tenzin Yeshe, a Tibetan Buddhist monastic (monk), will speak a bit about this ground-breaking production in which she was given rare access to interview Nobel Prize recipient, His Holiness, the XIVth Dalai Lama of Tibet.

VOICES FOR FREEDOM is a documentary mini-series for multimedia distribution. Director/Producer Mary Teal Coleman/Ven. Bhikshuni Tenzin Yeshe.

The main purpose of this documentary project is to help preserve the spiritual and cultural traditions of the Tibetan and Native American people. Both have been attacked to near-extinction and struggle today to continue their traditions.

The Director is a Tibetan Buddhist monastic (monk) who has unique insight into the content included in this show. In it, you will see Nobel Peace Prize recipient His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama of Tibet speak at length about what has happened to him and his people since 1949; you will also hear Tibetans who have been imprisoned and tortured give heart-rending accounts of their experiences.

You will also see spiritual and cultural leaders from various Native American nations speak eloquently about issues most important to them as they face the future. Many Grammy-winning musicians (such as Joanne Shenandoah and Bill Miller who received 2006 Grammys for Best Album of Native American Music; Mary Youngblood who performs her Grammy-winning song “Beneath The Raven Moon;” Nashville-based musician Danny Flowers who has written for Eric Clapton and others, and who is backed up by music legend Emmylou Harris, along with Bill Miller; Grammy-winner Gary Morris, and many other great musicians) kindly performed in this production, appearing both live and in produced music videos throughout this work.

Voices For Freedom: The Tibetans (Part I) focuses mainly on the Tibetans, and Voices For Freedom: The Native Americans (Part II)–sold as a separate product–mainly includes Native American leaders and their eloquent statements about crucial issues facing them (and all of us) today.

Running Time /DVD version:  Part I is @ 90 minutes; Part  II is @ 167 minutes.

More information is available on the Contact Voices website.

on the back of the turtle: cypress rosewood in concert at red rock in sl

Home to Red Rock in the the Native Lands Sim, Cypress makes his magic at Turtle Island at a well-attended concert. There are a few concerts with Cypress this week including the eagerly awaited performances with the Chang High Fire Dance Troupe on Thursday and Friday on Landmark Island. I will be doing a slideshow of one of those particle-filled shows if all goes well.

starry, starry night: stellaa interviewed on when worlds collide

Cypress Rosewood interviews Stellaa Francis, who is a Brazilian singer of Japanese descent, speaking of the songs by Kitaro that she sings on her new album which she is debuting in Second Life on March 6th on Stella Island. There will be two shows; one at 5 PM SLT and the other at 7 PM SLT. Her music also debuts on iTunes and other music venues on the web that same day. She has a lovely voice and her avatar pales to her Audrey Hepburnish looks.

I have a bunch of new things I am working on. I saw a pic of a mushroom that curved similar to this and I thought, “that could be a seat”, so set about doing one in Modo. I happen to love mushrooms, whether eating them or making them. Such wonderful things, fungi….shapes, colors, textures…I love it all.
